WHAT IS THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD?
Just like our UK-based DofE expeditions, the idea behind the DofE International Award is that not all learning happens in the classroom.
Young people need other, non-formal experiences to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world.
The International Award is available to all 14–24 year olds and is the world’s leading youth achievement award. It equips all young people for life regardless of their background, culture, physical ability, skills and interests. Doing the Award is a personal challenge that pushes young people to their personal limits while consistently recognising their achievements.
Since its launch 60 years ago, the Award has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives, and plays a key role in a young person’s personal development.
DofE INTERNATIONAL AWARD – WHAT’S INVOLVED?
Each award contains four sections…
Your chance to make a difference in your community and develop compassion by helping others. Participants are often amazed by just how much they get out of this part of the award.
Improve your health and fitness, test yourself and reach new healthy heights through participating and achieving in sport and physical recreation.
Develop vital (and sought-after) personal interest, practical and social skills.
Unleash your quest for adventure by planning, training for and then undertaking an exciting expedition that will see you become a vital team member with a defined purpose in an unfamiliar environment. The Gold award also contains a fifth section:
Designed to challenge you by putting you in a team environment with people you don’t yet know (but don’t worry, you soon will), this broadens your horizons, works wonders for your communication skills, enhances your awareness and provides the ultimate preparation for the real world.
