“At gold level I feel the students have gained many generic skills that should foster an appreciation of the outdoor environment and a desire to undertake many more expeditions in the future.”

Nick O’Loughlin – Arnold School

“Employers and universities recognise the value of having people who have a life away from their job  – this is where the DofE steps in.  It builds confidence, self-esteem and teaches new skills – it’s a great way to collect extra experience to give you the edge!”

Ben Fogle, TV presenter and adventurer – Silver Award holder

Benefits of a Gold DofE Award

For the hundreds of thousands of young people who take part each year, the benefits of achieving a DofE Award at any level are endless.

It’s difficult to list all the benefits of a gold expedition here… You should definitely know how much fun you’ll have. How pushing yourself to do new activities will help you to grow in confidence and, develop useful skills. Why meeting new people, and forming a team, will inspire you and, lead to lasting friendships. And how a DofE Award can give you the edge when you apply for college, university or a job.

The Duke of Edinburgh award programme is about helping you along the path to a productive and prosperous future. By completing your planning, training, practice, and qualifying, as many of our participants say, it’s life-changing.
